During that time he founded three businesses dedicated to educating young people through the arts—Express Yourself, a creative dance studio, Voice of Youth, an international youth media non-profit, and The Rhythm and the Rhyme, a summer camp for boys. Jonathan has also toured over 100 schools throughout Colorado as an artist in residence leading African drumming workshops. With an extensive professional background in dance, music, and theatre, including studying and working alongside Melissa Michaels for over a decade, Jonathan is a well-balanced performing arts specialist. After receiving his B.A. in Theatre from The Colorado College, he spent the next 12 years studying and performing West African Music, while dancing, choreographing, directing and producing shows with numerous dance and theatre companies in Boulder, CO. Jonathan’s work as a performer has continually led him back to the classroom to explore the essential role that teachers and mentors play in the lives of our youth. Jonathan currently works as the Performing Arts teacher at The Studio School, a public arts-integrated magnet school in Northglenn, CO. As one of the founding faculty members, he built a multi-disciplinary theater and dance program that serves children in Kindergarten through 5th Grade. Jonathan believes that embodied creative expression is one of the great keys to peace and harmony among the human race, and he is committed to enlivening the next generation of leaders as an artist, educator and mentor of young people.
